My current fun is making a series of wooden pens lathed on my drill press out of wooden dowels and laminated sheets.
At first I started experimenting with regular pine dowel and finishing it by oiling it, but then I tried an oak dowel and it finished much nicer.
Then a friend challenged me to make a laminated pen with various color laminations.
I made it by cutting thin pine planks, soaking them in water colored with food coloring and then gluing them together before rounding out the pen.
I also made a red pen for my mother to use to correct tests and a whale shaped pen that looks a lot like my Music Minnow.
